Retirees to meet

The Johnston County Chapter of the National Association of Retired and Active Federal Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Golden Corral on North Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield.

Burlington reunion

Employees of the former Burlington Industries plant in Smithfield will hold their reunion from 2 till 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Smithfield Middle School, 2455 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. The cost is $12.50 per person. The deadline to register is Oct. 25. For more information, call 919-965-5685.

Sponsors sought

Women's fitness

In celebration of Women's Health and Fitness Day, Curves of Smithfield is offering a no-cost, 30-day diet plan. The program is a series of weight-management classes. Barbecued chicken

Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Holt's Pond Church of God, 1285 Progressive Church Road, Princeton. The cost is $7 per plate, with delivery available for orders of 10 or more plates. Plates come with half a chicken, green beans, potatoes, bread and cake. Benefit tractor pull

A benefit tractor and truck pull will be held Oct. 2-3 at the Four Oaks Pulling Track, 659 Tettersville Road, Four Oak. Pulling starts at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Archer Lodge auction

The Archer Lodge community will hold its annual Country Auction on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Community Center, 14009 Buffalo Road. Barbecued pork, homemade Brunswick stew, hot dogs and french fries will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. An auction at 1:30 p.m. will offer pear preserves, pepper relishes, quilted items, jellies, jams and wood items.

Time Out for Tots

An open house with "Time Out for Tots" is scheduled from 4 till 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Johnston County Partnership for Children, 1406-A S. Pollock St., Selma.

Dressbarn benefit

Starting Oct. 1, the dressbarn store in Smithfield will invite customers to "adopt" Biscuit, a stuffed plush dog, for $5. The net profit of $2 for each one sold will go to the American Cancer Society. The store is in Carolina Premium Outlets on Industrial Park Drive.

Health screenings

Screenings to detect the risk of stroke and bone fractures will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Wilson's Mills Baptist Church, 652 Swift Creek Road, Wilson's Mills.
