The Johnston County Chapter of the National Association of Retired and Active Federal Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Golden Corral on North Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield.Employees of the former Burlington Industries plant in Smithfield will hold their reunion from 2 till 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Smithfield Middle School, 2455 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. In celebration of Women's Health and Fitness Day, Curves of Smithfield is offering a no-cost, 30-day diet plan. The program is a series of weight-management classes. Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Holt's Pond Church of God, 1285 Progressive Church Road, Princeton. The Archer Lodge community will hold its annual Country Auction on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Community Center, 14009 Buffalo Road. Barbecued pork, homemade Brunswick stew, hot dogs and french fries will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. An auction at 1:30 p.m. will offer pear preserves, pepper relishes, quilted items, jellies, jams and wood items.

Starting Oct. 1, the dressbarn store in Smithfield will invite customers to "adopt" Biscuit, a stuffed plush dog, for $5. The net profit of $2 for each one sold will go to the American Cancer Society. The store is in Carolina Premium Outlets on Industrial Park Drive.
