Air Force promotion

Larry C. Williams Jr. has been promoted to the rank of chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

He is the son of Agnes L. Williams of Newton Grove and Larry C. Williams of Benson.

Williams is a superintendent assigned to the 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill.

He has served in the military for 20 years.

Williams is a 1989 graduate of South Johnston High School. In 2008, he earned a master's degree from Tui University in Cypress, Calif.

Airman Wiley

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class David C. Wiley has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Carl and Ree Wiley of Pikeville-Princeton Road, Princeton.

The airman completed eight weeks of training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Wiley is a 2001 graduate of Rosewood High School.

Basic training

Army Pvt. RaSean C. Moton has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of Vashita Bell of Grovewood Drive, Clayton.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet use, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, basic first aid and foot marches.

Leadership training

Alex A. Edwards has graduated from the Leader's Training Course of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.

He is the son of Bruce C. and Beverly C. Edwards of Kristi Drive in the Cleveland community.

The four-week course is designed to improve self-confidence, initiative, leadership potential, decision making and collective team cohesion. The cadets receive training in rifle marksmanship, small-arms tactics, drill and ceremony, communications, combat water survival, rappelling, land navigation and squad-level operations.

Edwards is a student at N.C. State University. He is a 2006 graduate of West Johnston High School and a 2009 graduate of Wake Technical Community College.
