Nantucket in Clayton
The 2008 Town Square Concert Series in Clayton will kick off May 15 with Nantucket. Local rock group Groove Pilot will open at 6 p.m. Nantucket will take the stage at 7. In 1977, Nantucket signed with Epic Records and released its first album the next year. The album included the hit “Heartbreaker,” and the band went on to open for such acts as KISS, Styx, Boston, Mother’s Finest and Journey. The May 15 concert will offer refreshments, including pizza, hot dogs, beer, wine and soft drinks. Town Square sits between West Main Street and South O’Neil and Fayetteville streets.

Bill Leslie in Clayton
The Clayton Historical Association will present “Bill Leslie: Tar Heel Tales and Tunes” at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. Leslie, a native of Morganton, is a storyteller and musician. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for Historical Association members and $8 for children 11 and younger. Beach Ball is May 10
A Beach Ball to benefit the Johnston County Partnership for Children will be held from 7 till 11 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Agricultural Center, 2376 N.C. 210, Smithfield. The Embers will perform. Artwork in Clayton
Artwork by Clayton High School students is on display through May 30 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. A reception for the artists will be held from 6 till 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8.

Broadway in Clayton
The Johnston County Chorale will present “A New Generation of Broadway” at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. The production includes music from “The Phantom of the Opera,” Dreamgirls and other Broadway musicals. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. Raffle tickets will be available. Country music in Selma
The next Country Tonight Music Show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, May 9, at The Ice House Theatre at Webb and Waddell streets in Selma. Nancy and Tammy Dail and the Country Roads Band will perform. Comedian Tater Roads will join them. Doors open at 7 p.m. General-admission seating is $10. Reserved seats are $12. Baker School of Dance

Kickin' Back
