The Small Business Center at Johnston Community College has scheduled the following small-business seminars. Except where noted, they are free.

Old Before Sold? -- Making the Right Computer Purchase Decisions for Your Business -- 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Workforce Development Center. Eric Schmeider of JCC will show business owners how to plan for upgrades rather than replacements.

Fifteen Common Mistakes That Will Undermine Any Business -- 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the Public Safety Services Building on the JCC campus in Smithfield. Bob Moore will speak. He is small-business director at Robeson Community College.

Making the Most of Your Management Style -- 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Workforce Development Center. Mike Collins of The Perfect Workday Co. will show managers how to make their management style work effectively.

Financing Your Small Business -- 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at the Workforce Development Center. Kelley Farrente and Jason Hardy of Capital Bank will talk about business plans, financing options, SBA loan processes and grant research and writing.

Using Social Media to Market Your Business -- 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce on Industrial Park Drive in Smithfield. Deidre Hughey of The BUZZ Builder will talk about using social-media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, to market a business. This seminar is $12 for chamber members and $20 for all others.
