Three recent high school graduates have received scholarships from the Smithfield Branch of the National Association of University Women. They are Rokia Jade Clark, Najee Tobia Marquis Barnes and Lakesia Monet Watson.
Clark is the daughter of Roderick and Tracey Clark of Smithfield. At Smithfield-Selma High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the math honor society and the Future Teachers of America. Also, Clark was homecoming queen, a cheerleader and a member of the track and field team. She plans to major in education at Elon University.
Barnes is the son of Andre and Phyllis Barnes of Selma. At Smithfield-Selma High, he played football and was a member of the band. Barnes plans to major in graphic design at Barton College.
Watson is the daughter of Shelton Watson and Teresa Watson of Smithfield. At West Johnston High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club and the color guard in marching band. A peer tutor, Watson attended the Congressional Youth Leadership Conference, and she was a governor's page. She plans to attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
