Smithfield — Johnston Community College is looking for mentor families for four Egyptian students for the upcoming academic year.The students will travel to North Carolina in August and spend the year studying at JCC. Three of the students plan to enroll in international business courses, while the fourth will study air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration technology on the main campus, according to a news release.Students will live in local apartments or town homes, but the college is looking for mentor families from the Smithfield area to meet regularly with the students and introduce them to the local culture. The families will receive a small stipend for their time and expenses.The college is also looking for any unwanted furniture or household items, such as vacuum cleaners, TVs, washers and dryers, dishes and utensils to help furnish the students' homes.For more information, contact Heather Murphy, coordinator of global education, at 209-2239 or e-mail murphyh@johnstoncc.edu.
