Smithfield — The school board on Tuesday voted to send a $57 million spending plan to County Commissioners.Last year, the county gave schools $51 million for operating and capital expenses. Now the difference includes a 1-percent increase in the salary supplements paid to teachers and principals, and a 2-percent supplement increase for assistant principals.Also, $410,000 would go toward pay raises for classified employees to compensate them for experience in other school systems or other related work experience.Board members Larry Strickland and Donna White voted against the plan.
