Benson — A local man who was shot in the head by a family member on Monday was still in critical condition on Wednesday after undergoing surgery, Benson police reported.

Benson police were called to 702 W. Parrish Dr. about 11:48 p.m. July 21 due to a shooting. After arriving, officers saw Tony Lewis Barnes, 54, of 700 W. Parrish Dr. in the front yard. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Barnes was taken to WakeMed for treatment.

Barnes and several family members were involved in a physical and verbal confrontation, and one of the people involved fired the shot that struck Barnes, police reported.
