Princeton — The humped and angled rail crossing at Barden Street can be dangerous for cars to cross. But closing it to traffic could be risky to those who live across the tracks from the fire and rescue stations.Commissioners heard that debate and others during a public hearing Monday night. Locals were invited to comment on several scenarios — closing the crossings, putting up gates and signals, making other improvements or leaving open the rail crossings on Barden and Center streets. The state Department of Transportation has said it will give the town $300,000 for drainage work downtown if it will close either of the crossings. The town first held a public hearing on the topic several months ago, but held off on moving forward while Town Administrator Marla Ashworth was on maternity leave. Mayor Don Rains said he had hoped to find a consensus at Monday’s meeting. The town is likely to make a decision at its June board meeting, he said.
