Clayton — Authorities have recovered a trailer that was stolen from a Clayton parking lot earlier this month, but $150,000 worth of liquor it contained is still missing.

Cowan Systems reported May 2 that a tractor-trailer truck rig had been stolen from a lot near U.S. 70 Business and Shotwell Road. The truck was found several days later near the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. 210. The trailer was not attached.

Law enforcement authorities in Florida found the stolen trailer Tuesday, Clayton police reported. It had been disconnected and abandoned in an area near the Everglades. The trailer was not damaged, but the liquor was missing.

Clayton police are working with authorities from other jurisdictions on the investigation. Anyone with information on the theft or whereabouts of the stolen cargo is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 553-1570.
