Clayton — A Clayton woman died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 70 Business in Clayton Thursday afternoon, police reported.

Police responded to a traffic accident involving a car and a tractor-trailer on U.S. 70 Business at Medical Park Drive at 5 p.m. According to preliminary investigation, the car of Julia Chernik Bilenky, 80, entered the highway into the path of the truck, and the truck hit the driver’s side of her car. Bilenky, who was the only one in the car, was taken to WakeMed, but didn’t survive, Clayton police reported.

The truck’s driver, William Keith Green, 36, of Apex, was not injured.

Westbound U.S. 70 Business was closed for about one hour, and onlooker delays jammed eastbound lanes, police reported. Detoured traffic also created severe congestion on Shotwell, Old Garner and Guy roads and several minor accidents were reported.
