A Clayton couple remains in jail in Cabarrus County on charges related to the February assault of a 3-year-old girl.

Police in Concord notified Clayton authorities on Monday that they had located the suspects, Roger and Sarah Benton of 309 Robin Lane. Clayton police had been searching for Roger Benton since February 6, when he was charged with first-degree sexual offense.

Clayton Police Chief Glen Allen said in a news release that the alleged crime took place in Clayton. Benton and his wife fled Johnston County soon after the crime occurred, Allen said. Sarah Benton has been charged as an accessory after the fact.

The Bentons are being held in lieu of $20,000 bonds. They are expected to be returned soon to Johnston County to face their charges.
