Zebulon — Zebulon police on Friday arrested a man suspected of shooting another man in a fight over a woman July 11. Authorities arrested Mark Christopher Ray, 34, who lives at unknown addresses in Zebulon, at about 5 p.m. at the Regency Inn in Selma.

Ray was apprehended without incident, Zebulon Police Chief Tim Hayworth said in a news release. Selma police assisted in the arrest, and the handgun used in the shooting was recovered, Hayworth said.

Ray was charged with attempted murder. He was at the Zebulon Police Department Friday evening, waiting to be transported to the Wake County Jail later the same night.

The victim, Lorenzo Lee Hinton, 29, of 102 N. State St., Raleigh, was shot in the face with a handgun. He was taken to WakeMed, where he underwent surgeries. He has been released from the hospital and is recovering, according to Zebulon police.

The shooting took place at 6 p.m. July 11 at 200 E. Barbee St. in Zebulon.
