Johnston Medical Center of Smithfield has added two primary-care doctors to its medical staff.
Dr. Scott Michael Kahn, 33, of the Cleveland community started seeing patients in August at Horizon Family Medicine in Clayton. He recently completed a residency in family medicine at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Dr. Dale E. Feldpausch Jr., 38, of Clayton began seeing patients in September at Horizon Family Medicine in Smithfield.
Before coming to Johnston County, he worked for a primary-care group and at urgent-care centers around Lansing, Mich.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., Kahn earned an undergraduate degree in 2000 from Hofstra University and a medical degree in 2004 from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
Kahn says he chose family medicine as a career because he likes treating patients of all ages and seeing them through the different stages of their lives.
Kahn is also a professional magician, and he likes using magic tricks as therapy for his patients. "I think laughter is a good form of medicine," he says.
A highlight of his 25-year career was opening for comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
He and his wife, Bethann, a registered nurse, have three daughters.
A native of Michigan, Feldpausch earned an undergraduate degree in 1993 from Michigan State University and a medical degree in 1998 from Wayne State University. In 2001, he finished a residency in family practice at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Feldpausch says he puts an emphasis on educating patients so they can make informed decisions about their health. He thinks obesity is the most critical health problem because it leads to hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.
In the spring, Horizon plans to open a practice in Riverwood, a commercial and residential development east of Clayton.
Once the new office is built, Feldpausch will move his practice there.
He and his wife, Janet, have a daughter and a son. In his spare time, he likes to play golf and coach youth sports.
Kahn and Feldpausch are both board certified in family-practice medicine.
