Clayton -- Police in Cary have charged a Clayton man with bigamy after discovering he had married a second woman two months ago.

Captain Mike Williams of the Cary Police Department said an investigation into 30-year-old Keron Lamont Wilkins' lifestyle began on Monday. Williams said Wilkins' second wife called police after becoming suspicious of his behavior.

"After he had left the house on several occasions for periods of time that were unexplained, she called on us to investigate," Williams said. "We did and found that he had another wife in Johnston County in Clayton."

Police have accused Wilkins, of 104 Home Trace Circle in Clayton, of marrying Shannetta Dawn Stone, 32, of Richmond on March 20, court records show. At the time, Wilkins was already married to Chaka Miles Wilkins. Williams said the couple had been married since 2000 and have two children.

The two wives spoke to each other before their husband's arrest, Williams said. But he added he could not confirm reports that Stone and Chaka Wilkins had communicated by phone to have Keron Wilkins arrested.

Wilkins remained in the Wake County Jail Wednesday under a $3,000 bond.
