James Melvin “Jim” Parrish, 62, of 864 S. Pleasant-Coates Road near McGee’s Crossroads died Thursday, June 12, at his home.Born July 25, 1945, in Harnett County, Mr. Parrish was a son of Mary Overbee Parrish of Benson and the late Melvin Parrish. He had retired from construction and from the N.C. National Guard. Mr. Parrish was a member of the 50-210 Fire Department for 28 years and served as chief for 18 years. Also, he was a member of Johnston Memorial Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Johnston Memorial Church. The Rev. Chris Searles, the Rev. R.B. Parrish and Dr. Herbert Carter will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Brenda Norris Parrish; a daughter, Betty Parker of Benson; a brother, Jerry Parrish of Roseboro; three sisters, Jenny Lucas of Erwin, Janice Lambert of Benson and Jenneal Ingram of Newton Grove; and two grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, 301 W.
