Eleazer Grimes Byrd, 90, of Benson died Friday, Aug. 1, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Johnston County, Mrs. Byrd was the daughter of the late Fannie Barbour and Willie “Buddy” Grimes. She was the widow of Hezzy C. Byrd. Mrs. Byrd was a homemaker, and she helped in the family business, Byrd’s Used Cars and Garage.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, 301 W. Main St., Benson. Sue J. Langdon and the Rev. Randy Beasley will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery at St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Judy Barbour and Janet L. Byrd, both of Benson, Patsy Sorrell of Garner and Tammy R. Byrd of McGee’s Crossroads; a son, Charles “Don” Byrd of Benson; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
