Joe “Butch” Randy Barnes, 63, died Wednesday, Aug. 6 at his home in Cary. Born June 10, 1945 in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Lloyd Rudolph Barnes and Clara Starling Barnes. A member of North Cary Baptist Church, Mr. Barnes was a heavy equipment operator with Wake County schools.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 in at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial followed in Selma Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Gurley Barnes; a son, Scott Barnes of Selma; a stepson, William Woodard of Cary; two brothers, Bernie Barnes of Smithfield and Jerry Barnes of Selma; and a step-granddaughter.
