Ruth Foster Pope, 90, of Smithfield died Thursday, Aug. 14. Born April 2, 1918, in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Lillie Edwards Ballance.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in Kenly Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Sara Hawley of Elm City and Yvonne Crawford; two sons, Glenn Pope of Middlesex and Donnie Pope of Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
