Beulah W. Byrd, 88, of 991 Polenta Road in the Cleveland community died Thursday, Aug. 14, at Smithfield Manor.
Mrs. Byrd was a daughter of the late Benjamin Henry and Florence Batten Whitley. She was the widow of Hebron F. Byrd, who died Sept. 27, 1994. They were married for 53 years. After graduating from Wilson’s Mills High School, Mrs. Byrd attended Hardbarger’s Business College in Raleigh.
She worked for a while at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Smithfield. Also, Mrs. Byrd was a cashier for Efird’s Department Store in Smithfield. She retired from the N.C. Department of Revenue in 1982.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 U.S. 70 West, Clayton. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
Surviving are a son, Hebron F. Byrd Jr. of Danville, Calif.; a daughter, Gayle Hicks of Smithfield; a brother, B.H. Byrd Jr. of Raleigh; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 till3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
