Arnold Sherwood Pittman, 70, of 290 Pittman Road, Selma, died Thursday, Aug. 14, at his home after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.Born May 25, 1938, in Johnston County, Mr. Pittman was the son of the late Arnold and Elgah Pittman. He and his wife lived at Kennels Beach until Dec. 15, 2007, when they moved to Selma to be closer to family. Mr. Pittman received the Eagle Award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor, in 1953. At age 16, he placed ninth in the nation in livestock judging. Mr. Pittman graduated from Micro High School in 1956 and from N.C. State University in 1960 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a licensed contractor from 1965 till 1989. He and his father worked together until 1977.The funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Burial followed in the Pittman Cemetery near Micro.Surviving are his wife, Lynda Faucette Pittman; two sons, Gary Pittman of Chapel Hill and Dave Pittman of Selma; three stepsons, Kenny Kirkland of Greenville, Doyle Kirkland of Lakewood, Fla., and Kevin Kirkland of Raleigh; a stepdaughter, Karen Furlough of Stokes; and five stepgrandchildren.The family suggests memorial contributions to Johnston Memorial Home Care and Hospice, P.O.
