Alex Ray Stancil, 81, of 1392 Massengill Pond Road, Angier, died Monday, Sept. 22, at the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington. His family was by his side.
Born June 11, 1927, in Johnston County, Mr. Stancil was a son of the late C. Lester and Pearl Ellen Stancil. He was a retired general contractor and farmer. Mr. Stancil was a member of Coats Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Also, he served as construction manager on more than a dozen foreign and U.S. mission trips. Mr. Stancil was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 109 in Benson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Coats Baptist Church. The Revs. Jesse Mooney and Grover Blackburn will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Eula Gregory Stancil; two sons, Freddie L. Stancil and Phil R. Stancil, both of Angier; two sisters, Mary R. Painter of Charlotte and Frances Fish of Willow Spring; three brothers, Carl L. Stancil of Angier, Russell Stancil of Raleigh and Robert Stancil of Buies Creek; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 23) at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, 90 W. Stewart St., Coats.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Building Fund at Coats Baptist Church, P.O. Box 297, Coats, N.C. 27512.
