Jimmie Dykes Barnes, 77, of 14405 Buffalo Road in the Archer Lodge community died Wednesday, Oct. 1, with his family by his side. Born June 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Agnes W. Barnes and Hunter Barnes.
Mr. Dykes was a charter member of the Archer Lodge Fire Department and the Archer Lodge Community Center. He served as Archer Lodge fire chief for more than 25 years, and he was a past president of the Johnston County Fireman’s Association. Mr. Dykes was an avid hunter and fisherman.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at White Oak Baptist Church, 13943 Buffalo Road in the Archer Lodge community. Afterward, the family will receive friends at the Archer Lodge Community Center. A private inurnment will be held later in the Wall family cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou E. Barnes; his children, Jeff Barnes, Jan Smith and Jim Barnes; and nine grandchildren.
The family is receiving friends at the home on Buffalo Road.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Archer Lodge Community Center, 2204 Persimmon Circle, Clayton, N.C. 27527; or to the charity of one’s choice.
