James William Leonard, 92, of 1368 Mudham Road, Wendell, died Thursday, Oct. 16, at his home.

Born Oct. 7, 1916, in Franklin County, Mr. Leonard was the son of the late Henry and Ella Rose Vaughan Leonard. He was the widower of Helen Pearce Leonard, who died in 2003. Mr. Leonard was a retired farmer, and he was retired from Illinois Tool Works in Zebulon.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Hales Chapel Baptist Church, 13396 N.C. 39, Zebulon. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.

Surviving are his daughters, Maxine Gray and Betty Paul, both of Zebulon, Rose Canipe of Raleigh and Lula Earp of Wendell; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. 3rd St., Wendell; and other times at the home of Lula and Johnny Earp, 1354 Mudham Road, Wendell.
