Jimmy B. Britt, 70, of 616 Wimberly Road, Apex, died Sunday, Oct. 19.
Born in 1938 in Johnston County, Mr. Britt was a son of the late Alton B. and Elma Taylor Britt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During a long career in law enforcement, Mr. Britt was a Smithfield police office, Johnston County’s first Alcoholic Beverage Control officer, an Alcohol Law Enforcement officer and a U.S. marshal. After retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice in 1990, Mr. Britt was Johnston County’s jail administrator of six years. He was a member of Green Level Baptist Church in Apex and a former member of Sharon Baptist Church in Smithfield.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Green Level Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic rites will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in the cemetery at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Harper House Road in the Bentonville community. Dr. Kenneth Trasher will officiate.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Williams Britt; three daughters, Linda S. Britt of Morrisville, Lee Anne Nance of Angier and Kathryn Hamilton of Four Oaks; a son, James B. “Jim” Britt of Fuquay-Varina; a brother, Dixon Britt of Four Oaks; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall at Green Level Baptist Church.
