Jesse Spotswood Jolliff, 81, of Kenly died Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Born May 8, 1927, in Suffolk, Va., Mr. Jolliff was the son of the late Anna Goode and James Taylor Jolliff. A graduate of Smithfield High School, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II. Mr. Jolliff attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from Hardbarger Business College and Wayne Community College.
Mr. Jolliff worked for Burlington Mills for a number of years. He was also insurance agent before going to work for GTE Sylvania. Mr. Jolliff retired from GTE after 18 years as an engineer. He was a member of Kenly Missionary Baptist Church and the Kenly American Legion Post.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lulu Atkinson Jolliff; two sons, Jess Jolliff Jr. of Southport and Matt Jolliff of Greer, S.C.; a brother, Reade B. Jolliff of Florida; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Building Fund at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 237, Kenly, N.C. 27542.
