Zilphia Warren Batten, 87, of Shady lane Drive, Smithfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Johnston County, Mrs. Batten was a daughter of the late Ruffin and Caroline Batten Whitley. She was the widow of Charlie Batten. Mrs. Batten was a member of West Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Parrish Funeral Home, 1351 S. Pollock St., Selma. The Rev. Jason Hurt will officiate. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are a son, Danny Batten of Clayton; a daughter, Phyllis Strickland of Garner; a sister, Irene Creech of Micro; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to West Calvary Free Will Baptist Church, 309 Powell St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577.
