Gene Faison Jackson, 80, of Smithfield died Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Duke University Medical Center.

Born Jan. 10, 1928, Mr. Jackson was the son of the late James Forest and Mary D. Barefoot Jackson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years after graduating from Dunn High School. Mr. Jackson was the owner and operator of Jackson Masonry Contracting Co. He was a Smithfield firefighter for more than 20 years, and he was member of American Legion Post 109 in Benson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Parrish Funeral Home, 1351 S. Pollock St., Selma. Bobby Cox will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Edna Peedin Jackson; three children, Crystal Crosby of Raleigh, Carolyn Brougham of Clayton and Gene Alan Jackson of Chapel Hill; two stepchildren, Joy Parham of Wilson and Mark Peedin of Pine Level; three sisters, Lillian Glover of Raleigh, Mary Alice Hunt of Virginia Beach, Va., and Glenda Carson of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, James Edward Jackson and Walter Jackson, both of Dunn; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
