Many of you are reading The Herald for the first time, so I figure some introductions are in order.

In all, eight people make up the Herald newsroom. The newest addition is Solja Nygard Frangos, the Herald’s online editor, who splits her time between The Herald and its sister newspaper, the Eastern Wake News. Solja is chiefly responsible for editing and posting “On the Spot,” The Herald’s daily news update at www.theherald-nc.com. She also posts other online content, including audio and video. Solja can be reached at snygard@nando.com.

Two reporters — Jordan Cooke and Katherine Higgins — cover the bulk of Johnston County towns — Smithfield, Selma, Four Oaks, Pine Level, Wilson’s Mills, Benson, Kenly, Princeton and Micro. Kathy, the Herald’s senior reporter, also covers the Johnston County Board of Education. A Maryland native, she came to The Herald from Campbell University in Buies Creek. Jordan, an N.C. State University graduate, also covers the courts for The Herald. You can reach Kathy at khiggins@nando.com and Jordan at jcooke@nando.com.

Two reporters — Sarah McNeil and Sarah Nagem — cover western Johnston County — that arc from Archer Lodge to McGee’s Crossroads, including Clayton and Cleveland. Miss McNeil, who comes to us from Durham via Salem College, is also the Herald’s chief business reporter. Miss Nagem comes to The Herald from West Virginia and that state’s flagship university. She also covers the Johnston County Board of Commissioners and Johnston Memorial Hospital. You can reach Miss McNeil at smcneil@nando.com and Miss Nagem at snagem@nando.com.

Michael McLoone is the Herald’s photographer, taking most of the staff-generated photos that appear in the paper. He also records much of the video and audio that appear on the Herald’s Web site. Unfortunately, Michael will be leaving us at the end of the month. Our loss will be The Cary News’ gain. The good news is that we have already found Michael’s replacement. He is Larry Hilliker, a Smithfield resident and veteran News & Observer employee.

Clay Best, an N.C. State graduate, is The Herald’s longtime sports editor. In that role, he covers the county’s six high schools and many middle schools. In addition to writing stories, Clay assigns and edits stories from a stable of correspondents, and he lays out the sports pages. Clay can be reached at cbest@nando.com.

My name is Scott Bolejack, and I’m the Herald’s managing editor. That makes me responsible for the newspaper’s overall editorial content. I assign and edit the news stories that appear in the Herald, and I also lay out the pages. Finally, I am responsible for the Herald’s editorial page. You can reach me at sbolejac@nando.com.

Also, anyone in the newsroom can be reached at 934-2176. Call us with your suggestions, including story ideas. We look forward to getting to know you too.
