GIRLS SOCCER

Monday, April 21

Four Oaks Middle 6, Selma Middle 0

Notable: Morgan Gatlin scored four goals for the Cardinals, while Katie Wallace added a pair as well. The match was called early because of rain.

Smithfield Middle 2, North Johnston Middle 0

Notable: The game was called early because of lightning in the area. The Knights held the Jaguars without a shot on goal in the match.

Wednesday, April 23

Four Oaks Middle 3, Archer Lodge Middle 2 (OT)

Notable: Morgan Gatlin scored the tiebreaking goal in the second overtime after a long pass from Katie Wallace out of the defensive third of the field. It was Gatlin’s third goal of the match. Other defensive standouts for the Cardinals included Lindsey Smith, Chasity Hales and Shelby Bireley. The Cardinals moved to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference with the win.

Four Oaks coach Cori Williams: “Both Gatlin and Wallace are very talented athletes and continue to amaze me. ... Archer Lodge came to play today and they did awesome. They managed to be where the ball was in every play. And although we felt we were out hustled by them at times, we were able to hold them. ... I credit Cindy Smiley and Lucy Martinez at midfield with effective passing while Caitlyn Wynn hustled at goalie with several saves. It was an excellent game to watch and be a part of.”

SOFTBALL

Wednesday, April 23

Four Oaks Middle 10, Archer Lodge Middle 7

Notable: Katlyn Johnson was 3-for-3 at the plate and nabbed the pitching win as the Cardinals rallied by Archer Lodge. Heather Howard was 3-for-5 as well for Four Oaks, while Kaitlyn Barbour was strong in relief on the mound.

Four Oaks coach Susan Adams: “Archer Lodge played a competitive game. We made some errors on base and in the field that we do not usually make which cost us some runs. However, we were able to work together and come from behind to pull it out in the end. ... Meredith Banks, Whitney Williams and Alex Millay had a good game defensively.”
