Are you interested in a fun and recreational adult coed soccer league?

This spring the Johnston County YMCA will be starting its first adult co-ed soccer league for ages 18 and up. Anyone interested is invited to attend an organizational meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. The meeting will be held at the YMCA Fields located on 3798 Powhatan Road in Clayton. SELMA

Youth basketball registration

The Selma Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for the 2008-09 basketball season for boys and girls ages 4-15 (as of Jan. 1, 2009). The cost for residents is $25 for town of Selma residents and is $30 non-residents. Teams will begin practice after Thanksgiving with games being played in January and February. Games will be played on Friday evenings and Saturdays. For more info, call 975-1411. The deadline to register is Nov. 1.

SMITHFIELD

Fall beginner tennis

The Smithfield Parks Dept. will offer beginner tennis on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Oct. 21 thru Nov. 6. The class is open to boys and girls ages 9-15. Doug Simmons will instruct the class, which will be held at the Smithfield Community Park tennis courts. The fee is $50 per person; checks should be made payable to Doug Simmons. Register at the Parks Dept. office (1500 Buffalo Road).

Youth basketball registration

Youth basketball registration with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Dept. is now open and will continue through Oct. 31. Leagues are available for boys and girls ages 5-18. (Players must be 5 as of Dec. 31, 2008.)

The cost is $35 for town of Smithfield residents and $55 for non-residents. Practices begin in mid-November and games will start in December. Registrations are accepted at the Parks Dept. office at 1500 Buffalo Road or online at www.smithfieldparksandrec.com.

SRAC memberships now available

Memberships to the new Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center (SRAC) are now on sale. The SRAC will open in January. The first 100 people to enroll will receive a free month on their annual contract and will have their $30 enrollment fee waived. Corporate, government and senior membership rates are available as well. Amenities at the new facility will include an eight-lane competition swimming pool, a children’s play pool, a walking track, two racquetball courts, two basketball courts, multipurpose rooms, a fitness room, a strength training room, a banquet room, an aerobics room and more are also available.
