ROBERSONVILLE - Princeton's boys basketball team topped Edenton Holmes 71-68 in overtime to win the consolation game in the four-team Robersonville Roanke Holiday Classic last week.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good in overtime on a David Gurganus 3-pointer. Gurganus also made a pair of late free throws to keep the Bulldogs' lead at three points. Edenton Holmes, which made 13 3-pointers on the night, had a 3-point shot at the buzzer that just missed the mark and the chance to force a second overtime.

Gurganus finished with 30 points on the night and was named to the event's all-tournament team. Andre Nixon had a pair of double-doubles for Princeton in the tournament. He totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-66 loss to host Roanoke in the first round and had 18 and 10 against Edenton Holmes. Goldsboro defeated Roanoke to take the boys event championship.

T.J. Wilson, a state track champion, returned to the Princeton lineup after missing eight games because of a knee injury and got extended playing time in the fourth quarter and overtime. He finished with nine points and five rebounds.

"We played good defense for the most part and contested a lot of their 3-pointers," said Princeton coach Jeff Davis. "This is the fourth year in a row we've gone 1-1 in this tournament. It's a good event for us because of the kind of competition and teams we can play."

The Bulldogs' girls team took a pair of losses in the tournament, falling to Goldsboro 50-37 and dropping a 55-42 decision to Roanoke. Tiffanie Battle led Princeton with 12 points in the loss to Roanoke, while Tylan George had 13 points and 10 rebounds against Goldsboro.
